You’ve ordered a few new shirts (hopefully from Left Craft!), you’ve changed sizes, maybe there are stains on a loved shirt, what can you do with shirts you no longer use or need?
This is a problem for me as well…(especially for my “seconds” or test shirts). I’ve done some research and here is what I’ve learned about things to do with old t shirts:
Donate. If your old t shirts are in really good condition, organizations like Goodwill and GreenDrop will take your old shirts and either sell them (if in good condition) or sometimes they pass them on to fabric recyclers or rag makers – check with your local organizations about what they do with clothing items that don’t sell. I’m fortunate that where I live, GreenDrop comes to my neighborhood about once a week. I go online and schedule a pickup with them.
Recycle. Cut up shirts to make rags to use around the house or designate shirts to paint or clean in. Find out if your community has an organization that they use to textile recycling.
Upcycle. Create something new. I have a Pinterest Board with some fun ideas to try out. I can’t wait to make the braided t-shirt necklace.
Sell or Consign. If your items just don’t fit, if you’ve changed styles, or if you’re trying to minimize your wardrobe, check out online resell shops like Poshmark or Mercari, there are also brick and mortar resale shops like Clothes Mentor.
I hope this gives you some ideas of things to do with old t shirts. If anything, please don’t throw away clothing!
